Mahogany is an excellent neck material and is widely used for the back and sides of acoustic guitars. Mahogany is strong, stable and acoustically sound.
Quality - Our neck wood is all straight grained and quarter sawn. Mahogany can come from many places throughout the world. However, traditionally Brazilian or Cuban Mahogany has become very hard to obtain in a good quality, African Mahogany has many of the same attributes as the South American wood.
Look - Mahogany is a rich brown/ gold colour. The grain, which has a reasonably average spacing, is very dark brown almost black. This grain is particularly open and will require filling before finishing.
Price - African mahogany is relatively inexpensive.
Availability/Renewability - African Mahogany is still widely available.
