Brazilian Rosewood back & sides to build an OM or smaller steel string or classical guitar
Individually photographed - The set in the photo is the set you will receive
This is a second grade set and priced accordingly. It is still possible to use this set and build a beautiful first-class instrument.
BACK - 2 x Back halves 565mm long 210mm wide at widest point x 3.7-4.4mm thickness.
The back is a chocolate-brown colour with hues of orange and mauve and some faint black grain lines. The back is flat-sawn and has some warpage from when it was cured, it is now very stable. The warp is around 3mm across the width of the back. With careful thickness sanding and bracing the back can be pulled flat. There is a crack in the lower bout of each back half but only one of these comes into the perimeter of the back, these are indicated by blue lines on the photo. The crack can be glued with some thin superglue. With some careful treatment This will make a beautiful guitar back for an acoustic or classical guitar.
SIDES - 2 x Sides 785mm long x 125mm wide x 3.5-4.0mm thickness.
The sides match the back well in colour and have the same chocolate brown with hues of orange, mauve and black. The sides are flat-sawn and have some of the same warping as the back but are now over 25 years old and very stable, the warp at the worst point is 3mm over the width of the side. With some careful sanding to remove the warp these will make very attractive sides for an acoustic or classical guitar.
Brazilian Rosewood is the worlds most famous tonewood. It earned its reputation from it’s beauty, amazing acoustic properties and its use on many of the world’s greatest acoustic and classical guitars.
Trees of this amazing timber are no longer being harvested because logging has reduced the numbers to the point where it is endangered. There is now an extremely limited amount of the timber left worldwide and no chance of more supply.
We have just a few sets of Brazilian Rosewood available for sale and once they are sold we will not be listing any more.
