Pressing in frets is the most consistent way to get every fret seated along its whole length.
Pressing frets has the advantage over hammering that the entire fret is pressed in one operation, eliminating the possibility that an end will not be seated right, or the hammering could cause the fretwire to deform.
A small amount of titebond glue can be applied to the tang of the fret before insertion. This is more of a sealant than an adhesive and it also reduces the chance of chipping during later refretting.
